Te Akitai, Te Wai ō Hua and other iwi of Tāmaki Makaurau are mourning the loss of kaumatua Maurice Wilson, who died on Wednesday evening.

Mr Wilson was respected for his depth of knowledge about the history of the region, and for his ability to connect with the various hapū.

A former teacher, he became an advisor to Manukau City Council and acted as a spokesperson on Māori issues, and gave similar assistance to the new Auckland Council.

He is lying in state at Makaurau Marae at Ihumatao.

Dirty Politics
OPINION: What a fascinating last couple of weeks it’s been in politics. There seems no doubt that the entry of Kim Dotcom into national politics has created a frenzy never seen before.
Talent might not be enough

Race Card Time
