Green salad in Peters’ meal
Ardern and Peters with some Greens on the side.
That’s the recipe Sandra Lee sees for a stable coalition government.
She says New Zealand First’s policies are closest to Labour, especially on issues like holding the superannuation age, cutting immigration, and preventing non-residents from speculating in housing.
The former Mana Motuhake leader, who spent years sitting next to Winston Peters on the parliamentary cross benches, says people should give the wily kaumatua more respect.
"There’s not a person in parliament post this election that has more experience in pulling together a coalition government than Winston Peters and he will be thinking very carefully about the long term future of his political movement," Ms Lee says.
Mr Peters may judge his party’s survival and his legacy are best served by going with a reforming Labour Government, with the Greens giving a commitment on confidence and supply in exchange for environmental and social policy concessions.
