McDonald sees Greens-NZ First alignment
The Green Party's Jack McDonald says there is the best opportunity in a generation to form a government of the left.
The parties are preparing for coalition negotiations, with National claiming the high ground because of its 46 percent share of the party vote.
But with 380,000 special votes still to be counted, the Greens hope to get an eighth MP to boost the chances of a Greens-Labour-New Zealand First team up.
Mr McDonald, who at number 11 on the list missed out this time round, says National in the past hasn't shown New Zealand First leader the respect he merits, and he could be open to other offers.
"There's a lot of common ground between New Zealand First and the Greens and Labour when you look at issues like banning the sale of land to offshore buyers, the TPPA and our sovereignty as Aotearoa. Those are issues with a lot of alignment between New Zealand First and the Greens on in particular. I think we can sit down and kaupapa by kaupapa draw up a government that is going to work in the interest of all New Zealanders and Maori in particular," he says.
