Election choice still a toss up
Labour Party deputy leader Kelvin Davis believes the shape of the next Government could emerge in the next 48 hours … but he still doesn't know which way New Zealand First leader Winston Peters will jump.
He says the negotiation process, in which New Zealand First has been talking turn about with Labour and National over how their policies may line up, has been fair and robust.
He's annoyed at some of the reporting which has focused speculation and conjecture, or on trivial issues such as which biscuits were taken into the meeting room.
"We're very confident of being able to form a stable, robust Government and one that will endure beyond three years. Hopefully we have three, four, five terms. That's not beyond the realms of possibility. People need to allow the process to play out. There are only 48 hours max I would say to wait. This is about forming the next Government. We're not sitting round trying to decide what colour to paint the Beehive next time it gets done," Mr Davis says.
