Merger beefs up farm training in south
Agriculture training body Taratahi says the transfer of the Telford polytechnic near Balclutha creates the opportunity for it to become a national provider of quality primary sector education at the sub-degree level.
Chief executive Arthur Graves says it gives students more options.
As well as a history of excellent teaching, Telford has top class buildings and more than 900 hectares of commercial scale sheep/beef, dairy, deer and forestry units.
It recently started Maori and Pacifica trades training in partnership with the Ngai Tahu-backed Whenua Kura programme.
Mr Graves says the Hokonui Runanga has embraced Telford and is an integral part of the community support the Whenua Kura students can look to .
