What a day to be at lake Karāpiro! Day 2
What a day to be at lake Karāpiro! Day 2
Today Karāpiro really turned it on! Hot, sunny, not much wind… couldn’t ask for more!
For the first time this week, we had our J16 and Intermediate teams racing alongside the taitamariki (6-10 years) racing in our first finals of the year! Ngā mihi nui ki a tātou, ngā kaihoe, ngā kaimahi me ngā kaitautoko kātoa! We’d like to thank all of our awesome paddlers, volunteers and supporters – this is only possible thanks to you all. The event was humming with the 50 vendors selling a range of goods and food – the biggest day onsite for our waka ama whānau and it didn’t disappoint.
Line honours in the Taitama and Taitamāhine W6 250 races were awarded to Pipi – Te Rau Oranga O Ngati Kahungunu (Napier) and Pipiwhakao – YMP Waka Ama (Gisborne) respectively.
In the J16 and Intermediate the finals were a buzz – Tama ki te Rangi from Horouta Waka Hoe Club Inc (Gisborne) winning the J16 Men 500m, Team Tiare from Nga Hoe Horo Outrigger Canoe (Pawarenga, Northland) winning the J16 Women 500m, Pineula Boom Bullets from Akarana (North Shore, Auckland) winning the Intermediate Men 500m and Hinepukohurangi from Horouta Waka Hoe Club (Gisborne) winning the Intermediate Women 500m.
Tomorrow we have 41 races, with 7 finals, and the first of our turn races will take place and the last day of racing for our junior paddlers before we head into the W1 (single person) racing.
