Supporters out for Halbert Northcote run
Labour’s Northcote by-election candidate Shanan Halbert says he’s up for the race after 500 people turned out for his campaign launch yesterday.
They included Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and a strong showing of MPs and ministers, including New Zealand First MP Jenny Marcroft.
While National’s Dan Bidois is tipped to have the advantage given the 6000 vote majority former health minister Jonathan Coleman racked in the general election, Mr Halbert says the seat tends to go with the Government of the day, and he has a big team of volunteers to help him over the line on June 9.
He says the issues raised in his door knocking are transport, housing, health and his particular passion, education.
"The big one for me today is talking about my priority for the 200 school leavers that are unlikely to pathway into university. I am asking for more tertiary options to come in locally and more trades training," Mr Halbert says.
