Wood-first hotel plan for Rotorua city centre
Rotomā No.1 Incorporation has unveiled plans for an $80 million commercial centre and hotel on land it owns in central Rotorua.
Chief executive Neville King says the intention was to make an architectural statement using a wood first approach that would lift the CBD and push other developers to raise the quality of construction and architecture on their sites.
Chair Nelson Meha says the investment by the Provincial Growth Fund into infrastructure for the city had given the incorporation confidence to proceed.
He says the project would create the opportunity for skilled jobs for the community, particularly for rangatahi, and the four star hotel would would help Rotorua attract high-value tourists..
Rotoma No. 1 has assets of $88 million and made an $11 million profit in the most recent financial year.
