Iwi scheme positive for health insurer
Health insurer Nib New Zealand is pointing to its partnership with Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei as an example of how it is becoming more about better health rather than just responding to sickness.
The company yesterday reported a 10 percent lift in earnings in the six months to December 31 to $12.6 million and a 5.7 percent increase in policyholders.
It now covers 225,000 people.
Chair Tony Ryall says it is working with Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei to create better health interventions, improve health outcomes and tackle existing barriers that Māori experience when accessing healthcare through the public health system.
It is keen to now expand that program to other communities and populations both in New Zealand and Australia.
