A Māori disability advocate says funding for essential services couldn't have come soon enough
Yesterday the government announced an additional $27 million for NGOs and essential service providers to provide access to food and goods needed for survival, housing, crisis support and support for disabled people.
Dr Huhana Hickey says support for those most vulnerable should have been a top priority.
She says some agencies refused to support disabled people because they claimed they lacked the necessary personal protective gear.
"We've got parents who are trapped at how who are disabled who are having their young, young children doing their care for them, and that is not good enough," Dr Hickey says.
She says the rollout of support still has a few wrinkles but she hopes they'll be ironed out by next week
