Cleaners the unsung heroes in pandemic battle
A tribute to some of the unseen heroes of the COVID-19 crisis.
Former cabinet minister Sandra Lee says as a former cleaner, her thanks goes to those workers, a large number of them Māori and Pasifika, who are cleaning the hospital, the airports and the supermarkets.
"Dangerous work. They're keeping them spotless. They're the invisible workers and they're very low paid workers so I want to send all my aroha and I'm sure from all our people out to them especially at this time, because although we don't see them, they work their magic" she says.
Sandra Lee says also worthy of applause is Finance Minister Grant Robertson, who in an incredibly short time is pulling rabbits out of hats to keep the economy going – and sending clear messages to the public.
