Poverty reduction targets on track
Social Development Minister Carmel Sepuloni says the Government is on track to list between 50,000 and 74,000 children out of poverty
A stock-take of the first year of the $5,5 billion Families Package shows 36,000 families received the Best Start Payment for their new baby.
Another 6000 families qualified for the Family Tax Credit, bringing the total to 220,000.
Those on the credit received an average of $40 to $50 more a week.
The new clothing allowance was claimed by 13,500 carers, and more than one million people benefited from the Winter Energy payment, which went to superannuitants and those on a main benefit.
Ms Sepuloni says by the time the Families Package is fully rolled out in 2020/21, 385,000 families with children will be better off by an average of $75 a week.
