Strong take up of school donation offer
The Principal’s Federation is welcoming the take up of a Government scheme to replace school donations.
Almost nine out of 10 eligible schools have opted to no longer ask for donations.
They will instead receive $150 per student.
Federation president Whetu Cormick says that will relieve the pressure on whānau, especially in low decile schools.
He says pressure for so-called voluntary donations has been growing as schools tried to deal with persistent underfunding, but they can now plan better.
The scheme will cost the Government about $62 million a year.
