COVID cluster claims carer
Another Waitakere Hospital nurse has been confirmed as having COVID-19.
The Director of Public Health, Dr Caroline McElnay, says the nurse was caring for patients transferred from the St Margaret’s Rest Home and was in close contact with another positive case reported last week.
She has been in self-isolation for a week and is now being treated at North Shore Hospital.
The other case reported today was a probably case that has been reclassified as confirmed, so the overall total increases by 1 to 1490.
The number of people who have recovered is now 1347 or 90 per cent of those affected.
A record 7812 tests were carried out yesterday, bringing the total to more than 175,000 or 3.5 per cent of the population, putting New Zealand in the top 20 countries for testing worldwide.
