Maori purge bad sign for National future

Employment Minister Willie Jackson says National’s new leader seems determined to drag his party back to the Don Brash era with attacks on Māori.
In a radio interview, Todd Muller singled out Mr Jackson and Tourism and Crown Māori Relations Minister Kelvin Davis for what he said was a record of abject failure.
Mr Jackson says if his performance was so bad he would have expected to have been subject to scrutiny in the House – but he hasn’t faced a question from National for several months.
It’s an interesting strategy for Mr Muller to focus on the performance of Māori Ministers after sidelining all his own Māori MPs in a caucus restructure.
"This is a party that doesn't support diversity. They showed signs they were going to in the (John) Key era but now they're back to the Don Brash times. This is a throwback to the Don Brash times and it is probably going to get worse for Māori," Mr Jackson says.
He’s looking forward to being asked questions in the house about his performance so he can highlight the huge amount of work being done to maintain employment levels in the pandemic recovery.
