Wairarapa iwi taps global scholar
A Ngarimu scholarship winner and Fulbright Scholar will have a chance to see Māori development in action with her appointment to the board of Rangitāne’s Tu Mai Rā Investments.
Marise Kerehi Stuart is studying under Harvard University economics professor Amartya Sen, a Nobel Prize winner, focusing on the challenges to Māori economic development.
She is also using lessons from the successful Māori response to COVID-19 to design and implement development programmes in Te Tai Tokerau and the Wairarapa.
The other new board member is Sonya Rimene, who has extensive central government experience as well as being on the board of Rangitane’s post-settlement governance body and a director on Wairarapa Moana Incorporation.
Rangitane chair Jason Kerehi says it’s a great tohu to have applicants of such high calibre and extensive experience.
