Muller tactics a turn off for Maori Party
Māori Party co-leader John Tamihere says his party would find it hard to work with National under the direction new leader Todd Muller is taking it.
He says the Bay of Plenty MP’s strategy seems to be to solidify the white vote by having a go at Maori starting with the two Maori leading his own party.
That’s a different strategy that that adopted by John Key, who assimilated the Māori vote by brining in the Māori Party with ministerial positions outside cabinet and treating the Iwi Leaders Forum as the voice and face of Maoridom.
Mr Tamihere says the current re-energised Māori Party would not fall for that.
It also faces a problem dealing with Labour, which he says has assimilated its 13 MPs.
