Prosecutions as people flout COVID Level 3 rules
Twenty one people have been prosecuted for breaching the COVID-19 Alert Level 3 rules in the first few hours of the lockdown being lifted.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern told today’s briefing that while it may have felt like the first day back at work after the summer holidays, there were still restrictions and the enforcement of the rules will help save lives.
She says most businesses did the right things, but there were cases of large groups congregating around some businesses, who need to do more work on distancing protocols.
There were 104 breaches reported in the first few hours, with 21 prosecutions and 71 warnings issued.
There were two new cases reported today.
A traveller was confirmed with COVID-19 after returning from overseas and is in quarantine, and there is a probable case linked to a confirmed case.
The new total of confirmed and probable cases is 1474.
