Maori businesses share in tourism recovery putea
Eighteen Māori businesses including Mitai Māori Village, Ngāti Awa Tourism and Waewae Pounamu are among the 126 tourism businesses who will share in a $300 million investment to protect strategic businesses and drive domestic tourism.
Tourism Minister Kelvin Davis says the $230 million in grants and loans will help protect the jobs of around 3000 people directly employed in the industry.
There’s also $50 million for a regional events fund and $10 million to lift digital capability in the sector.
He says the $400 million tourism recovery package announced at Budget 2020, which also included $10 million for New Zealand Māori tourism, is now fully allocated.
