Greens co-leader weighs value of cabinet ties
Greens co-leader Marama Davidson is looking forward to a ministerial position if the party is returned to parliament.
While polls have the party hovering around the 5 percent threshold, she is confident it will confound history and be returned with a greater share of the vote than last time.
There was criticism she was left out of the cabinet, line-up, but she says those jobs were fixed before she was elected co-leader – and it meant she would speak with more freedom than she could as a minister.
"Ihumaatao is a clear example of where my non-ministerial position has been an advantage to the Greens, where people have been able to see us as having a stronger role in keeping Government to account and keeping minister to account so we have been really thankful in (what was) quite a strategic move to keep that freedom for me," Ms Davidson says.
Marama Davidson says the Greens position in the next cabinet will depend on what it can bring to the bargaining table after September 19.
