Davis sees Prime chance in Northland
Shane Jones has set the campaign for Northland alight – but not in favour of New Zealand First.
A weekend Colmar Brunton One News poll put the Regional Economic Growth Minister at just 15 percent support, despite more than half a billion dollars coming into the region from the Provincial Growth Fund.
National Party incumbent Matt King was on 46 percent, almost 10 points up on his 2017 election night margin when he ousted New Zealand First leader Winston Peters, and Labour’s Willow Jean Prime at 31 percent is also 10 points up on her 2017 tally.
Labour Party deputy leader and Te Taitokerau MP Kelvin Davis says polling also indicates Labour is ahead in the party vote in the north – and he believes with the vote split and the work Ms Prime is doing on the ground, she has a chance.
"Things are still fluid and things will change but what the Government has done and the quality of our candidates, we're in with a chance everywhere of taking some seats that have traditionally been National’," he says.
