Whanau Ora Clinic plays catch up on MMP jabs
A South Auckland health service has set up a community immunisation clinic to reach the large number of 15 to 30 years who may have missed out on the full course of MMR vaccinations while they were tamariki.
Whānau Ora Clinic National Practice Manager Doug Healey says it’s located alongside the clinic’s COVID-19 testing station on Druces Rd in Wiri.
He says people who aren’t fully immunised for measles, mumps and rubella are at risk of catching or spreading the diseases.
Of particular concern is measles, one of the most infectious viral diseases.
There were just 10 cases reported last year after an outbreak in 2019 with more than 2000 cases.
That outbreak spread to Samoa where there were 83 deaths, caused in part by a collapse in vaccination rates.
Mr Healey says if people aren’t sure of their status, staff can quickly check them against the national immunisation register.
He says the process is free, quick and effective.
The clinic at 25 Druces Rd, Wiri is open from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm and Saturday from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm.
Vaccinations are also available from family doctors and pharmacies.
