A Company stories sought at show and tell
The whānau of 28 Māori Battalion A Company members are being asked to share stories and taonga.
Mike Kake, who is organising a 'Hora Ka Taki – Show and Tell' hui on behalf of Te Rau Aroha museum at Waitangi, says photos and memorabilia can help keep alive the memory of the young men from Te Tai Tokerau who fought in World War II.
The material can become the raw material for a book, and he's also keen to source a photo of every A Company soldier.
"It's better to get the detail and gather as much information as we can because it is important we have the whānau stories. There are stories out there that haven't been told," Mr Kake says.
Hora Ka Taki is this Saturday at Pehiaweri Marae in Whangārei, starting with a pōwhiri at 10am.
