World Cup skip chance for Pacific league comp
Former international and Warriors coach Tony Kemp says a still beating heart is better than tin in a cabinet.
He’s endorsing the decision for New Zealand and Australia to sit out the Rugby League World Cup in the United Kingdom.
While the tournament hosts are crying foul, it was an obvious decision given the UK’s handling of the Covid-i9 pandemic compared with the Antipodean approach.
"Lives mean more than football. It's just a game. You'd hate to say you lost a family member because of that. The prestige that goes with that is fine but under these current circumstances globally you've got to take into context that a beating heart is better than a piece of tin in a cabinet," Mr Kemp says.
Tony Kemp hopes that instead of the World Cup, the New Zealand and Australian governing bodies could organise a three-test series, or even a Pacific cup that also includes Pacific and indigenous teams.
