Construction sector needs more skilled Maori
The Construction Sector Accord is partnering with Diversity Works New Zealand to increase the number of Māori, Pasifika and women in the sector.
The accord was set up in 2019 to allow industry and government to work together to meet some of the key challenges facing the sector.
Director Dean Kimpton says the construction sector includes a wide variety of creative and rewarding careers yet it is struggling to attract and retain people.
The project with Diversity Works is about understanding how it can improve diversity, equity and inclusion and better reflect communities.
He says women make up only 18 per cent of the construction-related workforce and Māori and Pasifika are underrepresented in the skilled professions and at leadership level.
