Shea DHB top role partnership in action
Sharon Shea from Ngāti Ranginui and Ngāi Te Rangi has been named the first Māori chair of the Bay of Plenty District Health Board.
Ms Shea, who is from the Borrell and Tangitu whānau, has a first-class honours degree in comparative social policy from Oxford University in the UK and has worked in the health sector for 25 years.
She has been acting chair of the board since March 2020, when Sir Michael Cullen stepped down for health reasons.
She says oy' an important sign for the community in terms of working in partnership to benefit the greater good.
The COVID-19 response, achieving health equity, and good financial stewardship, were high on her agenda for the board.
