Mahuta: Whaea used for promoter’s stunt
Labour MP Nanaia Mahuta says the enlistment of influential Maori women in the Chris Brown story is nothing more than the tour promoters trying to influence the outcome of a visa application, promote the tour and sell tickets.
The tour by the American rapper with a record of domestic violence was yesterday endorsed by a group of wahine including Dame June Jackson, Dame June Mariu, Dame Iritana Tawhiwhirangi, Lady Tureiti Moxon and former Women’s Refuge chief executive Merepeka Raukawa-Tait
Ms Mahuta says the women have misread the situation, given the problem of domestic violence in New Zealand.
She says if Immigration New Zealand does approve entry, she would like to see Brown donate his New Zealand performance fees and royalties to appropriate domestic violence services.
