Massive change attitudes on sexual violence.
A Northland roopu is coming to Auckland this week to protest Wednesday’s Boobs on Bikes Parade down Queens St.
The offshoot of the Massive Men Against Sexual Violence initiative has been holding hikoi and working in schools to challenge attitudes about sexual violence and male violence towards women.
Its most recent march involved carrying a coffin down the main street of Kaikohe to symbolise the death of childhood caused by sexual abuse".
Spokesperson Mike Shaw told Radio Waatea host Ngaroimata Reid it wants to tackle erotica expo organiser Steve Crow’s annual parade because it’s against the promotion and normalisation of pornography.
"Steve Crow is promoting pornography and what we are seeing is our young men in particular getting their ideas on sexuality getting quite warped, Situations are now arising in schools where 5 yr olds are acting out stuff that they saw on their 14 yr old brothers cellphone. That's not the kind of society I want to bring my mokopuna up in" he says.
