PM snubs poverty agenda
Maori Party co-leader Marama Fox says she's disappointed at the Prime Minister's refusal to sign New Zealand up to the goal of eliminating poverty.
As well as keeping an eye on the Trans Pacific Partnership talks in Atlanta, John Key was in New York last week to discuss the United Nations' Sustainable Goals Agenda.
"And the number one goal put to that General Assembly was to eradicate poverty in your own country. The number six poverty was to halve poverty by your own numbers, by your own measures, in 15 years. Our Prime Minister couldn't sign up to that, didn't sign up to that, isn't prepared to commit to that, and yet they expended great amounts of energy in signing off a trade deal," Mrs Fox says.
She doesn't believe the Trans Pacific Partnership is the answer to eliminating poverty or addressing Maori disparities.
