NZEI Opposes Charter School Bail-Out
A representative on the New Zealand Educational Institute which represents teachers throughout Aotearoa Rikki Sheterline has spoken out strongly against the Government's bail-out of Whangaruru Charter School in Northland.
Mr Sheterline says the government's decision to pour $130,000 to keep the 40 pupil kura going at least until the end of the year is senseless.
"It appears that it's a way to ensure that the model continues as opposed to looking at the best outcomes for each of those 40 students in the kura at the presnt. It's really more idealogical than I believe professionally driven" he says.
Mr Sheterline says there are other alternatives such as putting the money into supporting the students at other schools.
