Regional immigration plans wont work
New Zealand First leader Winston Peters says the Government's plans to encourage immigrants to regions wont work.
He says rather than slowing down immigration by giving extra points to immigrants to go to regions will actually speed immigration up.
Mr Peters says making the term immigrants need to spend in a region just a year is just a dog whistle hoping people will fall for it.
He says the time period to get extra immigration points needs to be three years at least
Mr Peters says immigrants will go to the regions for a year then move to Auckland.
He says regional mayors he has spoken to are not falling for it and see it as disruptive to their communities.
