Funding for te Reo teaching under threat
A programme teaching tens of thousands of kids Te Reo Maori throughout the country is under threat as money is poured into Asian languages.
Raewyn Harrison of Te Reo Tuatahi which provides te reo classes at 26 schools says they are not getting the same level of support as other languages being brought into Aotearoa after the Government gave $10 million to the teaching of languages such as Mandarin.
She says its not right that investment is being put into teaching the language of another country while they can't get the Ministry of Education to invest more into teaching te reo Maori in our schools.
Raewyn Harrison says they are in danger of going under but with just another $100,000 they could be in 40 schools.
