Student questioner of PM congratulated.
The head of Te Taura Whiri has commended the Waiuku College student who was upset by Prime Minister John Key's response to her suggestion that Maori Language week should be extended to a month.
The Prime Minister says he did not mock the 16 year old or say it would be boring leaving her crying and in tears as reported by a classmate.
Te Taura Whiri chair Dr Wayne Ngata says he has nothing more to go on than the news reports.
"I think first that we commend the student that made the suggestion despite the fact that she was taken aback by the response " he says.
Dr Wayne Ngata has also welcomed the appointment of Ngahiwi Apanui as the new CEO of Te Taura Whiri saying with his background he will bring skills in both te reo Maori and education to the job.
