Iwi leader keen to work with new immigrants
Te Rarawa chair Haami Piripi has come out strongly in support of Chinese immigrants saying new immigrants treat Maori better than pakeha.
Mr Piripi says the first wave of migrants to Aotearoa really cleaned Maori out and its a bit rich for one set of migrants who are still here to call judgment on other migrants who they are selling the country's land and resources to.
Mr Piripi says that Chinese immigrants are generally extremely hard working and in the Far North they are excellent role models.
He says only 16 percent of the people bothered to vote in a recent poll on Maori representation on the local council and of those 82 percent votes against which tells him that the people there are not interested in working with Maori.
Mr Piripi says he is a great fan of working with other migrants who want to work with the Maori treaty dollar when pakeha don't.
