Mighty River seat for Maori economy expert
Maori economic development specialist Mike Taitoko from Ngati Maniapoto has been appointed to the board of Mighty River Power.
He replaces Tania Simpson, who retires after 13 years in the role.
Mighty River chair Joan Withers says relationships with iwi and Maori landowners have been fundamental to the company’s evolution of a business approach centred on kaitiakitanga of natural resources.
She says as well as his Maori networks, Mr Taitoko has strong commercial skills in the application of digital technology to inform business and policy decisions.
The Massey University business graduate is the co-founder and managing director of Waiora Pacific Ltd, a technology company commercialising geospatial internet-based analytics services.
He also founded Tuia Consulting, a professional advisory firm focusing on the commercial growth and economic development of the Maori economy.
