Strong line up for Waiata Awards
Six60 could make a strong showing in next month’s Waiata Maori Music Awards with entries in six categories.
The band is up for Best Maori Pop Album, Best Music Video and Best Song, and Matiu Walters and Marlon Williams are joint songwriting finalists.
Two of its songs, Special and,So High, are finalists in Radio Airplay category.
Singer and producer Toni Huata, who won the best Maori pop album award in 2013, is a contender for the best video and best Maori female solo artist awards.
She’s up against 18-year-old Kaipara reggae-roots artist Majic Paora, who has been recording her first album alongside a hectic live schedule.
Ranea Aperahama will also contest multiple categories, including Best Traditional Maori Album; Maori Pop Album; Maori Urban Hip Hop Album; Best Maori Urban Roots Album and Best Maori Male Solo Artist.
The awards ceremony is at the Hastings Sports Centre on September 11.
