Time ticking for Kohanga Trust
Education Minister Hekia Parata says she only wrote to individual kohanga in response to a deluge of petitions and letters.
The minister has been criticised for contacting individual kohanga directly rather than going through the Kohanga Reo National Trust.
She says the kohanga whanau need to hear about the serious criticisms of the board made by independent reviews and the democratic changes she is asking for.
"It is time to put aside all the letters backwards and forwards and to fulfill the undertaking the board gave when it set off with its working group in 2014, met at Turangawaewae at the end of 2014, consult with kohanga whanau through the first quarter of this year ans still here we are in September and there is no sign of an open process or of a modern new entity to govern the board," Ms Parata says.
She says the national trust was given fair warning she was writing to individual kohanga.
