Biography authentic look at Maori Party founder
Maori Party co-leader Te Ururoa Flavell says a new biography of Dame Tariana Turia will give people an authentic look at what drove the woman who founded the party.
Crossing the Floor was launched today at Parliament.
It’s written by former Maori Party chief of staff Helen Leahy, who was at Dame Tariana’s side for 15 years.
" Obviously has some references to her time in parliament but before that she was a wonderful advocate from things such as the Pakaitore protest, He Oranga Trust back in Whanganui, setting the scene about social services, Te Puni Kokiri of course. Going all the way back even further to her upbringing. So it's a really good insight into Tariana Turia, the person probably most people wouldnt not have had that insight and it's told by somebody who was absolutely very close to her. The stories are very much authentic,'he says.
Crossing the Floor is published by Huia.
