Ahuwhenua advice valuable for competitors
The chair of the Ahuwhenua award for Maori excellence in farming says entering the competition is a great way for individual Maori farmers, trusts and incorporations to get valuable professional feedback on their farming operations.
Entries for the 2016 contest need to be in by November 27.
Kingi Smiler says the Ahuwhenua Trophy, which was set up in 1932 by Sir Apirana Ngata and then Governor General Lord Bledisloe, aims to showcase achievement in the Maori farming sector to all New Zealanders.
It looks for successful approaches to governance, financing, management, environmental sustainability and the incorporation of tikanga Maori in their business activities.
Mr Smiler says the judges are skilled agribusiness professionals who have access to data which can benchmark individual operations.
He wants farm consultants who work for Maori farmers to encourage their clients to enter the competition.
