World boxing title for wahine Māori

Cherneka Johnson from Ngāti Ranginui has won the IBF World Super Bantamweight title with a split decision against Mexican boxer Melissa Esquivel in Melbourne on Wednesday night, making her the become the second Māori and third New Zealand woman to win a world boxing title.
Johnson was born in Tauranga and is now based in Australia.
The first Māori person to win a world boxing title was Daniella Smith from Ngāpuhi, who won an IBF world title in Germany in 2010.
