Dust buster bus trip banned
Northland MP Winston Peters is complaining he's been blocked from travelling on a school bus in his electorate.
The New Zealand First leader wanted to catch the bus to Mangakahia Area School so he could meet with parents who are campaigning against the amount of dust coming off the unsealed roads.
He says it was it was important to be on the bus with the kids to see how the dust affects them.
But the Education ministry told the organisers at the last moment he could not be on board.
Mr Peters is blaming high level interference.
He says it appears National will stop at nothing to thwart the Northland MP from doing his job and, at the same time, prevent Northlanders from raising serious issues and demonstrating the problems.
Mr Peters also accused National's Whangarei MP Shane Reti of trying to keep the Pipiwai Titoki Advocacy Group quiet during last year's Northland by-election by telling them there would be consequences if they kept speaking up.
