Taura Whiri welcomes Auckland reo push

The Maori Language Commission has welcomed plans to get everyone in Auckland speaking the Maori language.
The aspiration is contain in a strategy released during today’s Multilingual Auckland conference organised by council-controlled education advocacy group Comet Auckland.
Te Taura Whiri chief executive Ngahiwi Apanui says it resonates with the commission’s vision of hearing this country’s indigenous language spoken across Aotearoa.
He’s encouraging other councils to adopt a similar strategy.
