Apple cider puts smile on Kono
Maori-owned food and beverage producer Kono has dipped into the family recipe book to produce its first cider.
New product development manager Jarrod Robinson says Tutu cider is made from Fuji apples grown in Nelson on land owned by Kono’s parent Wakatu Incorporation.
The company has already won an international reputation for its Tohu and Aronui wines as well as for a range of other products.
The name Tutu was chosen as a Maori colloquial term for being cheeky and mischievous, fitting in with it being the younger, sprightlier sibling of the Kono beverage family.
