Foundation supports Te Pou theatre
West-Auckland-based Maori theatre company Ruia Taitea Creative has had a $25,000 boost from Foundation North’s new Auckland Diversity Project.
The foundation, previously known as the Auckland Savings Bank Trust, is matching the funding given to Creative New Zealand to arts projects in the region that engage with Maori, Pacific and Asian communities and artists.
The grant will support activities at Te Pou Theatre in New Lynn.
Ngati Whatua Orakei Whai Maia got $38,100 for its programme of kapa haka and raranga workshops and performances, including efforts to reach out to Asian and Pacific communities.
Other groups to be funded this round are the Auckland Festival Trust, Silo Theatre Trust, the TAPAC Auckland Performing Arts Centre at Western Springs College, and Pretty Asian Theatre.
