Waipareira cross at White Cross charges
West Auckland social services organisation Whanau Waipareira is promoting a boycott of the area’s private after hours health clinics.
It’s running ads saying whanau should bypass White Cross and go straight to Waitakere Hospital’s accident and emergency department.
Chief executive John Tamihere says the clinics’ $92 charge for a visit is outrageous and was an impediment for whanau.
Whanau say they wait until the morning or a weekday before getting care, which could lead to conditions such as coughs and flus escalating.
Mr Tamihere says it’s a major west Auckland issue and Waitakere A&E is obliged to listen to what the community is saying.
