Unity will sweeten trade prospects
Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell says there are great opportunities for Maori exporters in Asia, but they need to push harder.
He’s just back from leading a Maori trade mission to Korea and Japan, following on from a similar one to China last year.
He says the fact Maori present their own culture and seek long term relationships in business is appreciated.
He wants to get back there with a larger delegation to tap into the interest.
"They’re keen. We've just got to do our homework and get consolidated. That's the biggest message – consolidate our products, don't go over there in bits and pieces, go under one brand. That is the work we have to do so I hope to call another hui in a couple of months on honey to consolidate our picture overseas, because they love that stuff," Mr Flavell says.
