Dion Tuuta, appointed CEO of Te Ohu Kaimoana on Paakiwaha.
Dion Tuuta will take up his new role in July as the CEO of Te Ohu Kaimoana.
He is currently the CEO for Taranaki Maori land corporation, Parininihi Ki Waitotara Incorporation, a position he has held since 2008
Dion Tuuta says he's supportive of the current court action taken by Te Ohu Kaimoana against the crown over the Kermadec Marine Sanctuary and says for himself the government’s unilateral action is very disappointing and it is a clear violation of the spirit of the treaty and the fisheries settlement.
He says the court action will be a significant challenge and it highlights the need for an organisation such as Te Ohu Kaimoana to act as a unifying focus point for Maori in it’s interactions with the government because it would be very difficult for iwi to take an action like this alone.
