Taranaki to host Te Reo Maori awards
Self-nominations have been ruled out for this year’s Maori Language Awards.
Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Maori has called for entries for the 11th Nga Tohu Reo Maori
Chief executive Ngahiwi Apanui says they want to honour Maori and non-Maori doing extraordinary things to create positive attitudes about the language, increase the number of speakers of the language and elevate its mana.
There are three new categories – arts and entertainment, media and sports – because of the support from those industries and sectors for this year’s Maori language week.
Nominators and nominees must be aged over 15 years and be citizens of Aotearoa.
Entries close on September 14 and the awards will be presented at a gala dinner with Te Reo o Taranaki in New Plymouth on November 11.
Entries can be submitted online via www.tetaurawhiri.govt.nz
