Go Bus hiring gets Peters firing
A transport company owned by Ngai Tahu and Tainui denies it is bringing in drivers from overseas instead of hiring locals.
New Zealand First leader Winston Peters accused Go Bus of trying to recruit 200 drivers from the Pacific and the Philippines instead of training and hiring Maori job seekers.
Go Bus managing director Calum Haslop says the while the company talked to Immigration New Zealand when it won a major new contract for south Auckland routes, it is now confident it can find all the drivers it needs locally.
It also works with the Ministry of Social Development to train beneficiaries to become bus drivers.
