Kotahitanga big question for Kingitanga Day
Kotahitanga, hauora Maori and language development are on the agenda for next month’s Kiingitanga Day at Waikato University.
It’s the eighth year the university will hold the event, where normal classes are suspended and staff and students get the chance to learn more about the Kiingitanga and Maori culture in general.
Pro Vice-Chancellor Maori Professor Linda Smith says it’s also a chance to engage with the wider community about Maori perspectives, innovations and ideas.
The kotahitanga debate will ask whether Maori unity is possible in a post settlement environment.
Panelists will include former Ngati Rangi chief executive Che Wilson, Tainui Group Holdings director and Waitangi Tribunal member Tania Simpson, Ngaruahine chair and public health consultant Will Edwards, and Massey University politics lecturer Veronica Tawhai.
Kiingitanga Day is on September 8 and all activities are free.
